This is where the artwork sits
behind a bevelled cut window mount. The frame sits
over the edge of the mount.
So called because the finished frame is in fact
a box with a glass front. The artwork is kept away
from the glass by a fillet. This method of framing
is suitable for works which have been floated onto
the mount and three dimensional pieces.
Traditionally the canvas
is placed against the
rebate of the frame. Other ways to frame canvases
include butted level, gap and forward as illustrated
below.
Beautifully hand gilded frames.
